Brescia – Fiorenzo Sandonini, chief executive officer of Sandonini Srl, tells Knitting Trade Journal How the company’s latest innovations are currently making headway in the hosiery knitting sector. The large Sandonini booth at the recent FIMAST exhibition demonstrated a range of the company’s hosiery knitting machine developments with visitors treated to an impressive display of the company’s latest ShoeSocks3D® technology. “We sell the machines in more than 60 countries in the worldwide market, ” explained the Mr. Sandonini.” Last year we created a type of revolutionary hosiery machine to make a range of innovative footwear called ShoeSocks3D® We will be focusing on the latest machines for the production of ‘ShoeSocks 3D® at the upcoming FIMAST exhibition. With its ‘Made to Measure’ machines, Sandonini prides itself on being able to match its customers’ precise requirements.
“Many of our customers and producing ShoeSocks3D® for leading brands in the sports, fashion and technical sectors, so each one has specific requirements which we are able to meet with our revolutionary concept. The ShoeSock3D® technology allows the reduction of the number of processes required for the production of footwear whilst also offering high performance with no wastage. “Our machines can also be modified to upgrade the style in just a few minutes. The key selling point here is that we follow our customer requests to produce a ‘made to measure’ machine. This type of customization is perfect for the footwear market where trends can quickly change.” The latest machines on offer include retrofitted hosiery single-cylinder machines in diameters 3 1/2 ins with 120 needles and dial and cylinder machines in a 4 ins diameter with 112 needles, which offer added flexibility and patterning. Once an order is placed, Sandonini ensures that the machine is prepared and upgraded including the software according to the requisite size of diameter and number of needles. The company also works closely with the yarn suppliers to ensure the machine can handle the right dtex and filament. Capable of using a wide variety of natural or synthetic yarns, there is also a range of different fabric types on offer including jacquard, terry, mesh knit, rib and knit links jacquard. “Preparing the machine to handle the right types of yarn is a hugely important part of the process,” says Mr. Sandonini. The ShoeSocks3D® is then knit in a single, Three-dimensional piece and is ready to fit on to the form for the finishing process. Once completed, they are then ready to be attached to any type of sole. With a production time of just three minutes, Sandonini also notes that the whole production process ensures no waste. In terms of markets, Sandonini is seeing a strong demand for Europe whilst the South American market and China are also performing well. The company was also at this year’s ISPO exhibition where a number of leading brands for the sports and outdoor sectors were keen on the technology.
“This is a revolutionary innovation for the footwear market, ” says Mr. Sandonini. “It still only represents a small fraction of the market but it is only the first step and this means that the potential is huge. The market wants and needs innovation.” According to Mr. Sandonini, The market for seamless and pantyhose is also progressing well while the company has also opened a new division for finishing machines and automatic sewing technology.
